Favorites of 2018

This past year has been personally…transformative. And that’s really allowed my work and images to take on another level that I feel I was just scratching the surface of at the end of 2017. In fact, by allowing myself to be more authentic to myself and my art, it’s also opened up more doors this year than I ever could have imagined ending with a huge win of being named one of The Knot’s Best of Weddings for 2019!

I’ve had the opportunity to watch families begin as I captured countless weddings this year as well as welcomed new babies into their families. Capturing anniversary sessions and family sessions of past clients have really hugged my heart as I am so grateful I can capture these milestone sessions as I watch these families literally grow! Getting the opportunity to capture NYBFW in the Spring and Fall has been a true treat and a few sleepless nights was well worth the adrenaline pumping experience of racing from one show to the next.

GOSH! 2018 has truly gifted me with so much and for that I am SOOO grateful! Below are some of my personal favorites from this past year.

ENJOY!

And through all the craziness of it all, I have these boys to truly keep me grounded and remind me that in order to be the BEST mom to them, I really needed to dig deep within myself to be true to my authentic self. That and also to wipe their boogers, and cuddle with them when they are just a wee too tired.

2018, you’ve been so good to me. 2019, I can’t wait to see what you have in store.

Sneak Peak: Brooklyn Winery | Wedding

This past Sunday brought us torrential downpours in Brooklyn. But as the saying goes, the wetter the knot the harder to untie. So what better day than to have a wedding at the Brooklyn Winery. Melissa and Dan celebrated with 85 of their closest family and friends in a union that was so representative of who they are! The first time Dan laid eyes on Melissa was when she walked down the aisle to start her forever with him.

Congrats you two!! So happy I could be a witness to it all!

Central Park, NYC | Engagement

Lindsey and Adam were such troopers to do a freezing engagement session in Central Park. Tis the season though, right?! But you would never even think it by flipping through their engagement session, and even their dog popped in for a few snapshots.

It was SOOO easy to get to know them as I was capturing them. Lindsey is a 4th grade teacher and in fact our very first conversation together was before school started one day. During that call Lindsey told me they were “terrible at taking photos". Right. Clearly that was a lie because this is probably one of my favorite sessions in Central Park to date!

They truly are the SWEETEST couple and it once again reminded me how LUCKY I am to get to meet such amazing people through my job. I am SO EXCITED to get to see them again next year, but also to see them make it official next June! We got some AMAZING shots! AND THAT LIGHT!! Wait until you scroll through and check out how ‘terrible’ they are at taking photos.

Can’t wait Lindsey and Adam!! June will be here before you know it!

Brooklyn Bride Park | Engagement: Melissa & Dan

I am SO excited for Melissa and Dan because in less than two weeks they will be making it official at the Brooklyn Winery and I had a chance to capture them for their engagement session at the end of September at Brooklyn Bride Park.

With the weather these days, you never really can predict whether it will be 40 degrees or 80 degrees on any given day this Fall. Including in September! We started that week in the city with what I can only remember as the start of winter and by the time we got to the day of Melissa and Dan’s engagement, we lucked out with GORGEOUS warm weather. Which also meant dodging TONS of tourists at sunset. But we made it work and were able to capture them in an incredibly iconic spot.

Can’t wait for your wedding you two!

Melissa has this ability to live in the moment and see the world as full of beauty and wonderment, which is an incredibly inspiring quality.

I love Dan because he's the best person I know. No matter what, he always strives to do the right thing or see the best in a person, which makes me work to be a better person in return.

Averill Park, NY | Elopement

Back in September, I ventured out into the suburbs of Albany to witness an incredibly intimate elopement at the groom’s log cabin. The property had been kept in the family for generations. When David inherited it, he decided to rebuild a log cabin since the one standing was falling apart. The craftsmanship in this cabin is beyond what I have ever seen or envisioned in a “DIY” log cabin. And mind you, he did not have any experience building anything until this project. It was the PERFECT backdrop for a milestone day.

The day itself was cloudy and misty. It was quiet on this Friday morning as I drove up to the log cabin. All elements to be an incredibly romantic day. Once I found the home, I actually drove deeper into the woods a bit to scope out some locations to shoot at later and literally put the car in reverse when I saw a beautiful patch of light beaming through the umbrella of trees. I was really hoping that Lindsay and David would be adventurous enough to follow me into the woods. And I’m soo grateful that Lindsay was willing to take her Jimmy Choos and her Reformation wedding dress and all into the woods :) We ended up with the most beautiful photos from their portrait session.

Congrats Lindsay and David! Thank you so much for trusting me to lead you both into the woods!

Jersey City Family Session | The K Family

I was lucky enough to capture this BEAUTIFUL family shortly after Ethan turned one. I’ve known Carly for so many years I’ve lost count. To watch this family grow pre-engagement, to marriage and now THIS little guy has been so rewarding! We wanted to capture their family session in their neighborhood in Jersey City and NYC was the perfect drop to where their family began. Ethan is the perfect blend of Carly and Mike and THE CUTEST!

I can’t wait to watch this family grow!!

Myrtle Beach Family Session | Baby Ruby

This past summer flew by! As you know my sister got married in Myrtle Beach. I was also lucky enough to update some family photos as well for this gorgeous family!

Ruby officially turned ONE last month. While her parents met in NYC in grad school at Parsons, they actually set up shop in Miami as her parents are both professors at the University of Miami. Ruby is totally laid back, easily entertained and laughs at all of my jokes and funny noises which makes her my favorite :) Check out these adorable photos of Baby Ruby!

Engagement with Mike & Lindsey

I'm such a sucker for an awesome engagement session and this one did NOT disappoint.

You would hope when planning anything that weather is pretty close to perfection. You would also think that the end of April would not bring below 50 degree temps on any given day. Welp, when the day came for Mike and Lindsey's day for their engagement session, it was FREEZING!!! And while they did a great job masking how cold they really were during this session, I was on the other end of the camera with a WINTER coat on. The things we all do for LOVE. <3

We trekked through Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan. This is such a hidden gem and if you're willing to make the trek uptown on the A train, (it's about a 30 minute ride from Columbus Circle. Seriously! Not that far!) you'll be able to hit up The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park. GORGEOUS!! Hit it up on a warm day, explore upper Manhattan and you'll be amazed how much land on the island is still untouched.

But back to Mike and Lindsey...They met after college and immediately jumped into a long distance relationship. Having been in one myself before getting married, I know they're not easy, but so worth it in the long run. This past February, Mike set up a special surprise for Lindsey and when she came home, there were cupcakes that had spelled out "Will you marry me?" on them. SO FREAKING CUTE! They're date is set for next Summer 2019. I can't wait for their big day!

For now check out some of my favorites from their session.  I have WAYYY tooo many favorites from this session. It's impossible to dwindle it down to just a few photos...so this is me trying.

The R Family

I adore this family.

They're beyond amazing. I've been lucky enough to capture each milestone for the last 11 years that I've known them as their family has continued to expand. We chose to have their family session at Liberty State Park close to their home in New Jersey; a spot where their family often goes for a family run, a picnic, or to hit up the playground. And I mean. THAT VIEW! Can you believe it?! I've always said that while New Jersey is NOT Manhattan, it arguably has the BEST view of the city. Soak it all in people! and just imagine what it looks like at night!!!!

To see their kids grow in personality has been so much fun for me to watch. Robert has so much SPUNK in him; he's a poser, a kidder, and an all around mischievous little guy that I had so much fun with. Adrienne is a bit more quiet, observant, but likes to flirt a bit. She puts up with her brother and the two of them I know will be best buds as they grow! Can't say it enough. LOVE THEM!

West Coast Travels

Back in my younger years, and definitely before kids, I used to be able to spontaneously book a trip at the drop of a hat. I've traveled all over the world; Ghana, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, France, Switzerland, Serbia, Croatia, England, Costa Rica, Canada, Hawaii, Austin, Chicago, England, Italy and so much more. These days, having two toddlers in tow makes it a tad trickier. Not impossible but trickier. And actually, really intimidating! So much in fact my husband and I haven't really taken a big trip since, well, when we lived in Hong Kong where we found out we were pregnant with our oldest after being there for two weeks.

However, we were feeling the itch and decided to check out any last minute flight deals that were happening during spring break. And can you believe it...we found a STEAL of a DEAL to shoot over to San Francisco on a direct flight...with two little toddlers in tow. The trip turned out to be one of our best vacations. All our anxiety and nightmarish situations that we had imagined in our head was just a thing that stayed in our minds. I was able to witness my boys bond together as brothers more so than I ever have before. We also visited with family and friends that we had not seen in awhile. All and all it was one GREAT week and we are no longer scared to travel with our babies. In fact, we're already looking towards our next adventure.

Here are some of my favorite snapshots from our week as we explored San Francisco, Sausalito, Stanford, Sacramento, Berekely and more.

The boys had been asking to hit up the beach one last time before heading home. And while it was INCREDIBLY foggy and the water was probably 40 degrees-ish, we decided to live a little on National Siblings Day at Ocean Beach. Those smiles were totally worth it! Looking forward to our next family trip!
